Sports show season to begin Friday

Wednesday, January 03

How does an outdoor enthusiast enjoy the outdoors when it’s too cold to go open-water fishing and not cold enough to go ice fishing?

Perhaps a visit to one of the annual boat, travel and outdoor shows will cure their winter woes. In only five days, one of these special shows designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts is set to get underway.

The 2018 sport show season officially kicks off Jan. 5 with the three-day Let’s Go Fishing Show at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville.

According to Let Go Fishing Show promoters, this particular event is unique due to its dedication solely to the sport of fishing and a reputation as a “fishing tackle super store.”

As in the past, this year’s show features a large selection of tackle, representatives from resorts, charter and guide services, vendors for boat and fishing accessories services, and other boat and fishing products.

The show also features dozens of seminars. With areas dedicated to the seminars, programs will be happening throughout the show. This permits plenty of speakers, a variety of topics and a greater opportunity for interested fishermen to catch a seminar at a prime time. The seminar schedule includes topics on bass, catfish, crappie, fly fishing, jig-fishing, muskie and other topics.

The seminar schedule will focus on productive fishing techniques for many popular fishing waters throughout Missouri and Illinois. The seminar lineup begins early on Friday and continues throughout the entire weekend.

The seminar lineup is highlighted by Bassmasters 2017 Angler of the Year Brandon Palaniuk. He is joined by other well-known experts like Kevin Rogers, Coleton Jennings, Mike Valentine, and Kevin Jones.

Other speakers include Todd Huckabee, Jeff Faulkenberry, Steve Welch, Alan Corzine, Kyle Schoenherr, Brad Chappell, Mike Mladenik, Tony Sheppard, Brett Ware and more.

The more than 120 vendor booths will be displaying the latest in tackle, rods, reels, trolling motors, bait, depth finders, resorts, float trips and more. In addition, boat dealers will display everything from fiberglass to aluminum fishing boats.

The kids will delight in the Cabela’s live fishing pond. The pond is a free, interactive fishing pond for children of all ages. This angling experience offers children the perfect opportunity to catch their first fish.

And, don’t forget the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and their always popular fishing simulator.

According to promotors, this is the show for fishermen. The Let’s Go Fishing Show is a show dedicated solely to anglers. Folks who love to fish come from Central Illinois, Southern Illinois and Missouri. The Gateway Center is the home (for 25 years) to the Let’s Go Fishing Show and is located in Collinsville which is just 9 minutes from downtown.

In addition, the Let’s Go Fishing Show consistently attracts an enthusiastic audience due to its dedication to fishing and to having high quality exhibitors. Visitors to the show not only find a “fishing tackle super-store” but attend seminars and see exhibits of interest.

Show attendees will find a wide variety of fishing tackle, rods and reels, and aluminum and fiberglass fishing boats. They will also find accessories such as trolling motors, depth finders and other fishing related products and services. Representatives from resorts and destinations will be there to help you plan a fishing trip to a nearby lake, Ozark retreat, charter fishing trip, or a Canadian adventure.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for youths ages six to 15. Children ages 5 and under will be admitted free. Seniors 60 and older will receive a reduced admission of $5 on Friday. The show hours are noon-8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Unlike many shows, parking is free at this location. And, all activities are included with the admission fee.
